Why Would I Need A Def Nozzle
You would need a def nozzle if you are manufacturing diesel exhaust fluid and want a suitable container to package it. The def nozzle makes pumping the fluid easy and adds to the convenience of use. If you have your own truck or use heavy duty equipment that runs on fuel or construction equipment you may well require diesel exhaust fluid. And unless you have a large fleet of vehicles, you are better served by the large containers housing diesel exhaust fluid that come with a def nozzle.
What does diesel exhaust fluid do?
Concerned with pollution levels from vehicular emissions, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set emission standards which the vehicle manufacturers must adhere to. Trucks and other heavy equipment that use diesel as a fuel now often come with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology. This needs diesel exhaust fluid to control NOx emissions and give better fuel economy and efficiency. The diesel exhaust fluid goes into a separate tank and it is extremely important not to put the def into the fuel tank. You basically need only two-three percent of def when compared to diesel. The benefits of the def nozzle include:
· Easy pumping of fluid
· No spillage
· The magnetic interface between the tank and the nozzle reduces the risk of putting the def into the fuel tank.
· It also reduces the possibility of contamination or over-filling
You can buy containers with def at dealerships, stores that sell automotive products and other automotive locations. These are usually available in one gallon and 2.5 gallon sizes. If the def in the tank falls below the required levels you will probably learn of it from the indicator and may be prompted to add more.
